I can still remember when 1 GB flash drives were all the rage. I mean in that time depending on what kind of person you were, 1GB of space on your person seemed like alot. And if you were ever thinking about storing more than 10GB of data only an external would come to mind.  But times have changed and our appetite towards data has not just grown but also evolved. Now a new mark has been reached in both portability and storage capacity and Kingston has made it. Imagine caring a flash drive with 1TB.

Now if some had told me that there was a flash drive commercially available with that capacity I would not have believed immediately without seeing proof. Because, no way would I be thinking that 1TB could be possible in a 72mm x 26.94mm x 21mm dimension tube. Well not until a few more years.

1tb flash drive

Well it is possible. Introducing the DataTraveler HyperX Predator from Kingston. This USB 3.0 Flash drive comes in two options 500GB or 1TB and is backward compatible with USB 2.0 systems. It is cased in metal with a smooth silver finishit also comes with a custom key ring and “HyperX Valet Keychain”. People with USB 3.0 ports can expect up to 240MB/s read and 160MB/s write speeds which is very impressive for a device of its size and that is about 50 times faster than 2.0 flash drives (an estimate). Only drawback about this storage device though is that it is quite expensive. Price ranges from about 1000USD or 1000 Pounds (so I guess $1=1GB). See it here on amazon

innovatio award for kingston

I love this innovation and it is no surprise that Kingston got an “Innovation” Award form eteknix.com.  I know it will not be long before other manufactures start to follow. With this innovation do not think that the think that a 1GB microSD is not possible soon.
